To be honest, until now, I wasn’t into electronic music at all. I was only into the analogue sounds of real musical instruments and not synthesizers or any other electronic music equipment. But you need to widen your concepts and knowledge about every musical genre which makes you a better producer.
In this blog, I’ll briefly analyse the sub-genre called “electro-funk”. It’s not as broad but can be easily identified with the swaying and swooping electric guitar. The genre came about in early 80’s when the drum machines, synthesizers, etc. were popular. Many other elements using talk-boxes, vocoders, etc. were made and recorded into this engaging genre of electronic music. ("Episode 19 – Electro-funk part 1", 2019). The song that is going to be remixed has funk elements such as guitar and a comparatively fast tempo that makes it a disco song. The elements of the raw song might be replaced with similar electronic sounds such as synth kick, clap samples, stereo and powerful synth bass, etc.
In the early 80’s, as the technology developed, Roland puts out its first drum machine which was programmable in real-time ("Episode 19 – Electro-funk part 1", 2019). This song is to be remixed in reference to ("Funkin’ On", 2019). This song has similar elements electronically such as punched bass, synth kick with a raw drum kit as well. This song has guitars all the way through and that is what I seek to take from this song and put it into my remix. The guitars are well balanced and define the “electro-funk” genre quite well and hence, that song will be my reference song.
